WHEN AND WHERE ARE THE PROVINCIALS?

The SMAA Provincial Championships is an annual event showcasing some of Saskatchewan's top athletes.

Provincial Championships are held throughout Saskatchewan in conjunction with a different SMAA tournament and location every year.

2009/2010 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS - March 20 - Weyburn, Saskatchewan

WHO CAN QUALIFY AND COMPETE IN THE PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS?

The SMAA Provincials are open to members of the SMAA only.

HOW DOES AN ATHLETE COME TO QUALIFY TO COMPETE IN THE PROVINCIALS?

Athletes earn points by placing 1st through 4th place in SMAA sanctioned tournaments.  Points earned are as follows

First Place win          - 51 points

Second Place win     - 25 points

Thirst Place win        - 12 points

Fourth Place win       - 5 points

In order to be considered to compete in the Provincial Championships athletes must meet two criteria:

1.) Athletes must place First through Fourth in a minimum of 3 SMAA tournaments for their event during the tournament season. Placements must all be in the same event to qualify - ex.  placing in 2 sparring divisions and one forms divisions does not qualify.

2.) Athletes must earn enough points to place in the top 5 for their division.

The top 5 athletes in each division (if they have placed in a minimum of 3 tournaments) qualify to compete in the SMAA Provincial Championships.

WHAT IS THE START AND END DATE OF THE TOURNAMENT SEASON?

The season length varies each year depending on when and where the Provincials are being hosted.   The last tournament before the Provincials is the last tournament of that season.  The tournament at which the Provincials are being held is the first tournament of the new season.

2010 TOURNAMENT SEASON: Can-Am Classic (February 20, 2010)

HOW DO ATHLETES KNOW THIER PLACING THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?

Provincial ratings are posted throughout the tournament season to allow athletes to monitor their placing with in the ratings.

Shortly after each tournament, the new ratings will be posted.  It is the Athletes or Coaches responsibility to monitor the ratings for errors or omission.

After each tournament the SMAA allows for a 60 day 'Correction Period'.  It is within this 60 day period that athletes or coaches must notify the SMAA of any errors or omissions to the ratings.  After the 60 day Correction Period has elapsed, the ratings for that tournament become permanent and points cannot be added.

WHAT DO YOU DO IF YOU NOTICE AND ERROR OR OMISSION IN YOUR POINTS?

After the results are posted and Athlete has a 60 day period to report errors or omissions in the rating of that tournament.

Errors can be reported by emailing the SMAA office at:  SMAA@sasktel.net or calling the SMAA office at (306) 565-2266

When reporting an error or omission please be sure to include the following:

-Athlete Name, Age, Gender, Belt and School name.

- If reporting an omission of a tournament winning please be sure to include the tournament in questions as well as what position the athlete won.

Errors must be reported within 60 days of the posting of the results.  After this period changes cannot be made to the ratings.

Deadline to report errors for the 2009 PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONSHIPS IS MARCH 13, 2020

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN AN ATHLETE CHANGES BELT OR AGE DIVISION?

When an athlete changes divisions their new division will be recorded at the next tournament they compete at.  The changes will be automatically adjusted in the ratings and they will carry their past points with them to their next division.

WHAT HAPPENS IF AN ATHLETE QUALIFIES IN ONE DIVISION AT THE END OF THE SEAONSON BUT MOVES UP INTO A NEW DIVISION JUST PRIOR TO THE PROVINCIALS?

If, at the end of the season, an athlete qualifies in a particular division, but moves up before the Provincials are held, the athlete must compete in their new division.

For example; if an athlete qualifies in the White/Yellow division but becomes an Orange belt right before the Provincials - they must compete in the Orange/Green division.  Students may never compete in a lower division than what their age or belt is.
